ABOUT THE DYNOMAN F2 PISTON
KITS:
As the 77-78 Honda 750 F2
has a 18% larger combustion chamber to compensate for the larger
valves, through the years many people have installed the standard 836cc
(ex: Wiseco K836) kits for the 69-76 engines only to discover that the
compression was too low to give them the extra power that they were
after.
Dynoman offers our custom 836, 915, and 970cc piston kits for the F2.
They have the
correct dome to raise the compression to a true 10.5:1 and 11.5:1
respectively.
These
pistons are state of the art diamond cut on CNC machines in the USA from 2618 aluminum
forgings. This is the same alloy used in many pro stock pistons. This process
makes them lighter than some of the cast pistons used in the 70s, but much
stronger. They also come with a brushed dome to smooth any sharp edges.
The
pistons feature large valve pockets for the 31 and 34mm valves used in the F2
engines. They also have
contact reduction grooves above the top ring for pre-ignition control, and
accumulator grooves below the top ring for better ring control.
The DP836/65f2 kit is
the same bore size as the standard Wiseco K836cc kit, so they are a drop in
for any F2 with the standard K836 Wiseco kit already installed.

An accumulator groove is machined into the
land between the top and second ring. It provides additional
volume where residual combustion gases that have "blown by" the
top ring can collect. This additional volume helps to reduce
pressure between the top & second ring, thus aiding in top ring
seal and minimizing ring flutter.
LATERAL GAS PORTING
This process mills slots into the top of the
top ring groove and provides a pathway for combustion pressure
to get behind the top ring. This process helps to increase ring
seal.
SMOOTH FINISHED DOMES
Decreases hot spots
CONTACT REDUCTION GROOVES
The purpose of machining these grooves is to
reduce the amount of contact area against the cylinder wall when
the piston “rocks over”. Contact reduction also serves to
disrupt the flame travel into the crevice area thus helping to
reduce detonation.

The 3D Under Crown machining process allows for
uniform deck thickness, therefore creating a lighter and more
durable piston.

FULL LIGHTENING PACKAGE

TUFF SKIRT COATING
JE Pistons’ trademark coating that is a
lubricating, anti-friction / anti-wear coating applied to the
piston skirt only. Unlike our standard Skirt Coating, Tuff Skirt
will not wear and is designed to withstand many different types
of endurance applications, similar to those commonly found in
NASCAR. Buildup is .0005” per surface and finished diameter of
skirt should include the coating buildup.
THERMAL CROWN BARRIER
The thermal barrier crown coating is applied
to the top of the piston and is designed to reflect heat into
the combustion chamber, thereby increasing exhaust gas velocity
and greatly improving scavenging potential. The .0015” thick
coating can also assist in extending piston life by decreasing
the rate of thermal transfer.
TULIP VALVE POCKETS
Most commonly used on Hemi and motorcycle
engines, this process leaves a raised area on plunged valve
pockets to achieve maximum compression.
ABOUT CYLINDER BOTTOM TAPER
It is common for the tapered lip that came in the bottom of your
cylinders from the factory to be removed when installing larger bore
piston kits. If the machine shop doing your boring does not taper the
bottom of the sleeves after they are bored there will be a sharp edge at
the bottom in place of the factory taper. It will need to be removed to
make ring installation easier. You can taper the sleeves by hand with a
Dremel tool or porting tool using a small 400 grit or finer sanding drum.
It is also very important to wash the bores with hot soapy water to
remove any sanding residue and oil them lightly when the tapering job is
complete. We recommend lightweight machine oil or engine oil. Following
this procedure will greatly reduced the risk of broken rings during
installation!
